An Armenian journalist and democracy activist was arrested and beaten by police this week after raising concerns about the May 31 mayoral election in the capital, Yerevan. Arshaluys Akobyan is a press photographer for the Armenian Helsinki Association, a participating organization in the World Movement for Democracy which has issued a Democracy Alert on the case.
