Rights & Democracy’s International conference on Sharia and family law reform

Rights & Democracy, the Canadian democracy assistance group, is searching for two speakers to present papers at an international conference on Sharia and family law reform in Muslim countries that we are hosting next February in Kabul, Afghanistan. We are looking for speakers with a strong background in gender analysis of Islamic laws, with an expertise in Sharia and family law reform. The two languages of the conference are English and Dari. Arabic papers are welcome. All submissions must be received no later than 09:00 Afghanistan time on December 15, 2009.

Assistant Program Officer, Africa – National Endowment for Democracy

Assistant to the Vice President for Government Relations and Public Affairs – National Endowment for Democracy

This position reports directly to the Vice President of Government Relations and Public Affairs.

The incumbent will be exposed to international visitors, speakers, and activists who are working in support of democratic development and human rights. NED is the home of the International Forum for Democratic Studies, the Journal of Democracy, and serves as the secretariat for the World Movement for Democracy.

The ideal candidate will possess a B.A. in international affairs, politics, or a similar field. He or she will have a strong interest in democracy promotion and a desire to gain experience in the international non-profit sector. The candidate should have excellent written and verbal communication skills and solid organizational skills. Previous work experience in a similar field and Capitol Hill experience are both strongly preferred. The position offers competitive salary and excellent benefits.

Senior Electronic Resources Librarian- National Endowment for Democracy

Senior Director of Finance- National Endowment for Democracy

The Senior Director of Finance (SDF) is a member of the senior management team and is responsible for the protection of the NED’s financial assets and reputation as a responsible steward of those resources.  The SDF works cooperatively with all departments to effectively budget, monitor and track finances to achieve NED’s programmatic, operational and financial goals in a manner consistent with NED’s mission, vision and values.

 Director of Operations – Conciliation Resources

Conciliation Resources (CR) is an international non-governmental organization with more than 15 years of experience working to prevent and resolve violent conflict. Our practical and policy work is informed by people living in countries affected or threatened by war. We work with partners in the South Caucasus, Fiji, East-Central Africa, the Mano River sub-region of West Africa, India, Pakistan, Colombia and the Philippines. We also publish Accord: an international review of peace initiatives, and seek to influence government peacemaking policies. As the Director of Operations, you will oversee the strategic management of our financial, material and human resources. Could you lead a dedicated and experienced team in providing operational support to challenging programme and policy work?
