Zimbabwe: African democrats call for action

The Africa Democracy Forum (ADF), a network of over 450 democracy and human rights organizations across the continent, has expressed its concern at Zimbabwe’s political deadlock, escalating violence, and the deteriorating economic, health, and humanitarian crises.

Next week sees both an Extraordinary Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the third on Zimbabwe since the March 2008 elections, and the African Union (AU) Summit. The ADF urges participating leaders to ensure the full implementation of the September 2008 power-sharing pact and demands the immediate release of democracy and human rights defenders, including Ms. Jestina Mukoko, a prominent human rights activist.
