Dialogue Programs Assistant, Project on Middle East Democracy

The Project on Middle East Democracy (POMED) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to examining how genuine democracies can develop in the Middle East and how the United States can best support that process. Through dialogue, research, and advocacy, we work to strengthen the constituency for U.S. policies that peacefully support democratic reform in the Middle East.

POMED is hiring a Dialogue Programs Assistant for the Spring of 2010. The position provides a unique opportunity to impact debates over the future of U.S. policy towards the Middle East, build skills and knowledge, and interface with leading thinkers.

The POMED Dialogue Programs Assistant is chosen each term through a highly competitive application process. Candidates should be deeply motivated individuals with a strong working knowledge of the policy debates surrounding U.S. impact on political reform in the Middle East. They should possess outstanding communication and organizational skills, be detail-oriented and be able to multi-task. Strong research skills are a must. Proficiency in Arabic (any dialect) and prior experience organizing and managing panel discussions or conferences are strong pluses. Candidates should be able to work from January through May 2010 on a part-time basis (20 hours per week). This internship is unpaid.

Intern, Latin America & the Caribbean, National Endowment for Democracy

The National Endowment for Democracy is hiring an intern for Latin America and the Caribbean for the spring 2010. The position requires 15 to 20 hours per week. The intern will work with NED’s Latin American staff in a combination of administrative and substantive issues. Some of the tasks will include but not be limited to: assist program staff in project management duties including: attend relevant meetings on key democracy issues affecting the region; review and summarize proposals for NED program staff review; help map out NGOs and donors working in key countries; and attend meetings with visiting grantees; assist the team in administrative duties including: develop team’s contact database; prepare relevant news clips for distribution; file reports and news items; help with translations; assist with planning and organizing special meetings; and respond to requests for information.

The Office of Government Relations & Public Affairs at the National Endowment for Democracy (NED) is seeking a highly motivated individual to serve as an Intern during the 2010 spring semester.  The unpaid internship provides excellent opportunities for research, writing and administration in the areas of communications (press, publications and public events), Congressional relations and the Freedom of Information Act.  The Intern will also interact with a constant stream of international visitors, speakers and activists who are working in support of democratic development and human rights.

Intern, International Center for Not-for-Profit Law

The International Center for Not-for-Profit Law (ICNL) seeks bright, energetic students with an interest in international affairs to serve as interns. ICNL’s internship offers a unique opportunity to be involved in the promotion of an enabling legal environment for civil society, freedom of association, and public participation around the world.

Interns should be enrolled in or have a degree from an accredited law school. Good research, writing, and analytical skills are particularly important qualifications for this position. The intern should also have demonstrable individual initiative and ability to work as part of a team. The intern must be located in the Washington D.C. area.

The deadline for spring applications is December 31, 2009. The deadline for summer applications is February 28, 2010. Applying early is encouraged, as decisions will be made on a rolling basis.
