Web-based mapping tracks young political prisoners

“It’s clearly an important initiative” says one human rights analyst.

She’s talking about the World Youth Movement for Democracy’s web-based mapping of young political prisoners. The purpose of the initiative is to highlight the plight of imprisoned youth activists, says Mohamed Al Maskati of the Bahraini Youth Society for Human Rights, one of the groups behind the campaign.

Drawing on the Google map format, the map allows users to click on markers representing individual prisoners to get further information about their case. On the WYPD’s website users can send an e-mail to update information or add a new prisoner.
